Arjuna and Bhima Prepare for Battle
Mughal India, circa 1616
From the Museum site: This dramatic composition illustrates one of the last battles before the final great battle of the epic. Arjuna, the mighty warrior, and Bhima, the strongest of the Pandava brothers, stand on their chariots readying their arrows. Surrounding them are an inner circle of war elephants and an outer circle of cavalry on armoured horses. As before, the armour is Mughal, in contrast to the 'ancient' chariots. The small scale of the figures and large size of the page indicate that this comes from a later manuscript than the 1598 Razmnameh.
