Image: Rama and Lakshmana Fallen

Rama and Lakshmana wounded
by Indrajit's Nagapasha
circa 1700

From the Museum site: This subject appears in Rama and Lakshmana Overwhelmed by Arrows. Rama and Lakshmana are overcome and enmeshed in Indrajit's arrows, which have turned to snakes. The monkey and bear armies look on despondently. This painting belongs to the same Shangri Ramayana series as Rama and Lakshmana on Mount Pavarasana and displays a shared treatment of landscape, with an undifferentiated green ground and a curved horizon edged in clouds.
