Image: Rama Sends Lakshmana to Sugriva

Rama Sends Lakshmana to Sugriva
(British Library: Mewar Ramayana)

From the Library site: Once enthroned, Sugriva has given himself up to the pleasures of sex and wine and forgotten his promise to help Rama recover Sita. The angry Rama is depicted sitting cross-legged on a lotus-seat in a cave in the Prasravana mountain where he and his brother have passed the rainy season. He tells Laksmana to go to Kiskindha to remind the dilatory Sugriva of his promise. On the right Laksmana sets out, balanced by two wondering deer on the left.
